European Diversity Charter

The EU draws strength and unity from its diversity – we must continue to endeavour to create more diverse, inclusive and equal workplaces and societies.
EU Platform of Diversity Charters
A diversity charter consists of a short document voluntarily signed by a company or a public institution. It outlines the measures it will undertake to promote diversity and equal opportunities in the workplace, regardless of race or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability and religion.
Since 2004, 26 Diversity Charters have been established in Europe, providing support and promoting best practice in diversity management to thousands of leading multinational companies, SMEs and public organisations. They are founded on the principle that diversity management in the workplace delivers great benefits in terms of recruitment and staff retention, creativity, problem-solving and customer engagement. These Charters provide support in diversity management, including training to thousands of companies. All signatories to an existing Diversity Charter can benefit from the expertise it offers them.
In 2010, Diversity Charters from across Europe came together to create an EU-level platform funded by the European Commission under the project ‘Support for voluntary initiatives promoting diversity management at the workplace across the EU’. The platform now consists of 26 Diversity Charters from the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.
