A bit like in the famous U2 song – except instead of Harlem, it was Dlabačov. Nearly one hundred employees of Klépierre from various countries decided to dedicate part of their international meeting at Hotel Pyramida in Prague's Dlabačov district to a meaningful cause.
As part of the Zapojimse.cz programme organised by Business for Society, they took part in a volunteering activity supporting the Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, one of the Czech Republic's leading providers of social services. Together, they created Christmas angels from modelling clay, which Diaconia will offer at its Christmas charity markets and fundraising events. The proceeds from their sale will support social services for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities.
Support that makes a difference twice
There was rolling, cutting, decorating and, above all, plenty of creativity and enthusiasm. The result is a colourful collection of Christmas angels that will help twice – bringing joy to those who purchase them at charity events while also supporting the people who rely on Diaconia's services.
This perfectly illustrates the value of corporate volunteering. The time and energy employees invest today can continue to generate meaningful support months later.
When a corporate gathering becomes a force for good
Corporate volunteering offers far more than support for a non-profit organisation. People from different teams, professions and countries get to know one another in a completely different way than they would during meetings at work. Volunteering strengthens relationships, team spirit and company culture while giving employees the opportunity to share a unique experience outside their everyday routines and professional roles.
For non-profit organisations, it is about much more than simply having "extra pairs of hands". A company's volunteering activity can become the beginning of a long-term partnership, bringing not only employees' time but also expertise, know-how and other forms of support.
The year 2026 gives this even greater significance. The United Nations has declared it the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development, highlighting the vital role of volunteering in strengthening solidarity, cooperation and resilient societies.
The story from Dlabačov shows exactly how such cooperation can work. The company contributed its employees, who brought energy, creativity, commitment and compassion. Diaconia will now transform their work into tangible support for the people who benefit from its services.
Our sincere thanks go to Klépierre, all of its dedicated volunteers, and Hotel Pyramida, which provided a welcoming venue for this unique international corporate volunteering event.
"The Angels of Dlabačov" have now come to life. Their real mission, however, will begin at Christmas, when they help bring support to those who need it most through charity events.
